Our beautiful Matsya Yoga Academy in 1080 is located in the Josefstadt district, in the center of Vienna. We have a lovely yoga room and all the facilities needed for daily life. We have a well-equipped kitchen, two toilets, and a changing room. Yoga mats are also available on-site. Yoga studio classes and courses can be booked online, but of course, drop-ins are also welcome.
We aim to create a space that feels like home. The lounge area and kitchen in the yoga studio invite you to stay, and the small library inspires browsing and reading. For those attending our workshops and yoga teacher trainings, there is the possibility of staying overnight in the studio, subject to availability. Our studio is a home in the truest sense of the word.
The core of our lineage goes back to Sri Aurobindo and his vision of Integral Yoga. Sri Aurobindo was a revolutionary, philosopher, and visionary. In 1968, Mira Alfassa founded Auroville based on Sri Aurobindo's ideas, a societal vision in which continual inner growth, perpetual inner youth, ecological sustainability, and unity with the soul were to be lived. This unity of the soul and daily life is to be enabled through the yoga of devotion to the divine mother. Ānandamaẏī - Chaitanyamaẏī - Satyāmaẏī - Pāramī is our mantra of the divine mother, expressing this spirit. It is the mantra of our school, which is founded on this spirit, the desire to make life fuller through yoga. Fully and completely.
Our Hatha yoga practice is based on the yoga of Swami Vidyananda, a follower of Sri Aurobindo and also a student of Swami Satyananda Saraswati. So, in the practical part of our lineage, we are in the tradition of Satyananda Yoga, but with a broader philosophical basis. At the same time, we explore the origins of Kundalini Yoga according to Dhirendra Brahmachari. This yoga is static, very still, expansive, and beautiful. We learn and teach meditation and the origins of Kaula Tantra inspired by our teacher Mark S. G. Dyczkowski, a student of Swami Laskamnjoo.
Oṃ
Ānanda-mayī
Oṃ – She, the Delight
(We invoke supreme bliss)
Chaitanya-maẏī
She, the Consciousness
(We invoke supreme consciousness)
Satyā-maẏī
She, the Truth
(We invoke supreme truth)
Pāramī
She, the Supreme
(Eternally)
All Nature dumbly calls to her alone
To heal with her feet the aching throb of life
And break the seals on the dim soul of man
And kindle her fire in the closed heart of things.
